Overview

The episode starts off in the classroom in which Asai Shouhei is pondering over the events that had unfolded on the morning, during trash duty. He had found some panties in the library which turned out to be left by two students after they “made love” the previous day. Asai Shouhei and his friends soon realise (with the help of some girls) that they’re the last four virgins in the grade.

Following the introductions of Asai Shouhei’s friend’s Iwasaki “Kenken” Kengo, Udagawa “Udayan” Hayato and Enami “Kou-kun” Kouji, we see the arrival of childhood friend Oowada Chie. The gang all used to worship her when they were younger, but soon come to realise she had changed alot in her 11 year absence. Funnily enough, Chie is invited to stay with the Asai family, much to Shouhei’s dismay.

Meanwhile, the town commitee is thinking up a way to stop the teenagers “fooling around” at the up-and-coming town festival, Shouhei’s fantacising about one of his teachers and his friends get caught peeking in on the girl’s swimming lessons. After they get caught Kenken decides to form The Virginity Preservation Club, Shouhei then gets a date with his teacher and the men on the commitee watch porn to get in the mood for the festival. Phew! Comedy ensues.

It’s now the day of the festival, Shouhei tells the gang about his date with the teacher and Kenken gets mad about it. Shouhei storms off to meet his teacher, but she doesn’t turn up. As he’s about to leave, she turns up with another guy, who she says is her “friend”. Shouhei goes home and has a talk with Chei about the day she left. The episode ends with Shouhei reaching out to kiss her.

First Impression

I think need to get something off my chest before I finish this entry.. I’ve never actually watched a J-Drama/Dorama before, so I had no idea what to expect from Stand Up!! To be perfectly honest, I can’t even remember what tempted me to start watching this show in the first place. I do know one thing though.. I’m glad I did. I don’t think I could have picked a better series to break me in, as the saying goes.

I’ll definitely be watching the rest of this show, I’m also considering looking into a few more J-Dramas. So far I’ve read great things about Nobuta Wo Produce, which also stars Yamashita Tomohisa who plays Kenken, and Sapuri, which stars the beautiful Itoh Misaki.

Opening Theme: Kotoba Yori Taisetsu na Mono by Arashi

The opening is performed by no other than Ninomiya Kazunari (who plays Shouhei)’s pop group Arashi. It’s actually quite a nice song, which suits the style on the show. The fansubs I’m watching don’t have an ending theme, I don’t know if they’ve been cut out or what. I’m starting to think there isn’t one, since I can only find evidence of an opening theme.
